Clay handbuilding
Use your hands to sculpt mugs, figures or anything you like!

How it Works
You shape it, we fire it
Walk in with an idea or flip through our provided templates to make cups, figures, and more! This activity does not use the wheel-throwing machines, you do everything by hand with the tools we provide.
We provide one kilo of clay to start. Our staff will go over some tips to give your piece the best chance for surviving the oven, and they’ll be available to answer any questions to help reach your design goals.
When you are done, let us know which pieces you’d like to keep, we’ll bake them in our oven, and they’ll become solid and white. We’ll give you a call about two weeks later when they are ready to be picked up, or to be painted at the studio.
Open to all ages, best for older kids.
How much does it cost?
You get one kilo of clay for $60 plus tax. This is enough to make 2 medium-sized mugs. More clay is available for $10 plus tax per pound.
After the oven, projects can be painted for $20 plus tax at the studio.
How long does it take?
Most kids take at least one hour, but it depends on what they make.
There is no time limit during our open hours. Clay dries within a day, so it is not possible to return on a different day to finish.
Clay Handbuilding FAQs
Any tips for a good result?
Score and wet the surfaces before you join two pieces, then press and wiggle them together. Avoid solid chunks: walls should be no thicker than two centimetres. Cover the clay you are not using with plastic, it dries fast.
What if a piece breaks in the kiln?
During the activity, we go over some tips to give your piece the best chance of survival, but there’s no guarantee what could happen in the oven. We fire the pieces carefully after a proper drying time. A piece that breaks in our kiln would have broken in any kiln, so there is no refund or do-over.
Will you fire clay I bring in?
Sometimes, but only when kiln has space is available. It must be low fire cone 04 clay, never air-dry clay or plaster, so bring a picture of the box, or be sure to ask the studio you got it from. Please refer to the “Frequently Asked Questions” page for pricing.
