Pottery Wheel Throwing
Practice your skills or have some chaotic fun with no instruction

How it works
You get three balls of clay and two hours on the wheels
We recommend that you try one of our booked wheel classes before a walk-in wheel session, but it’s not required. This tactile, hands-on activity is super fun, even if your final products are not able to be fired.
Only one person per wheel, and the balls can’t be shared between multiple people. We reserve the right to decline keeping pieces that are likely to break in the oven.
We’ll introduce the parts of the wheel and give you some common tips for beginners. You get 3 one-pound balls that you may combine or split for larger or smaller projects. You can have three pieces fired in our kiln. You can get more clay and have more items fired for a fee, see below.
Available to anyone over the age of 5, recommended for adults. This is not a class, we don’t provide instruction. Click the button to see how our classes work.
How much does it cost?
For $60 plus tax, you get 3 one-pound balls of clay, 2 hours on the wheels and we will fire three projects for you.
For additional $10 plus tax, you get an extra ball of clay and you can have one more project fired.
After firing
Items that are fired will be ready 1-2 weeks later, we’ll give you a call.
After firing, you can take the items home as is or you can paint the items for $20 plus tax. The items are not shiny and food-safe until they’re painted and put back in the oven.
Walk-in Wheel Throwing FAQs
Can I trim my pieces?
Pieces dry on the bats for a smooth bottom, so we do not recommend wiring them off. If you want to trim yourself, let us know. We’ll keep them under plastic for up to 48 hours to allow them to dry to the right consistency for trimming. Time your return strategically, the clay does not wait and will dry out if left too long.
We always trim the bottom of customer projects as sharp edges are at risk of cracking in the kiln.
I have long fingernails, can I throw?
It is harder, since you will have to use your knuckles more than fingertips. We do not recommend it, and there is no refund if it does not work out.
What if a piece breaks in the kiln?
At the start of the activity, we go over some tips to give your piece the best chance of survival, but there’s no guarantee what could happen in the oven. We fire the pieces carefully after a proper drying time. A piece that breaks in our kiln would have broken in any kiln, so there is no refund or do-over.
Will you fire pieces I threw at home?
Sometimes, but only when kiln has space is available. It must be low fire cone 04 clay, never air-dry clay or plaster, so bring a picture of the box, or be sure to ask the studio you got it from. Please refer to the “Frequently Asked Questions” page for pricing.
